Michael Cohen Reportedly Reaches Plea Deal With Federal Prosecutors

Michael Cohen, the former personal lawyer for President Donald Trump, has reportedly struck a plea deal with federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York relating to an investigation into tax and bank fraud. NBC News reports that the deal is not finalized but could be announced as early as Tuesday (August 21) evening.

Cohen has been under investigation by federal authorities for tax and bank fraud involving a $20 million loan a taxi company owned by his family had secured. He is also being investigated for campaign finance violations over payments that he made to women prior to the 2016 election to keep them quiet about alleged affairs they had with Trump.

Federal agents raided Cohen's law firm, home, and hotel room in April following a referral from special counsel Robert Mueller. They recovered documents, computers, and recordings that Cohen had made, including conversations he had with Trump regarding the payments.
