Mississippi now has nine counties with more than a thousand coronavirus cases. Lauderdale County is the latest. As the Health Department reported 1230 new cases statewide Thursday, Lauderdale saw its case count climb to 1016. Hinds County has by far the most-- 3317-- followed in order by DeSoto, Madison, Harrison, Jones, Rankin, Forrest, Neshoba and Lauderdale. Neshoba is the only one on the list that's not among the state's ten most populous counties. Its population ranks 29th. The two of the ten largest counties that haven't reached 1000 cases are Jackson County with 874 and Lee County with 695.
