It took Mississippi 136 days to go from zero to 50,000 coronavirus cases. And the same length of time to reach 51,000. Saturday, the Health Department reported 1434 new cases. Madison County became the third county to exceed 2000 cases. Lauderdale County still has the most deaths-- 84. But Hinds and Neshoba counties are close behind at 82. One big difference-- 65 per cent of the deaths in Lauderdale have been in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities but in the other two counties, a majority of the deaths have been among the general population-- 64 per cent in Hinds and 59 per cent in Neshoba.
