The Jackson area, DeSoto County and the coast continue to be the hottest of Mississippi's coronavirus hotspots. But the state now has 14 counties with more than a thousand cases. Hinds County pushed past 5000 cases this week and now has more than a hundred deaths. Also in the metro, Madison and Rankin counties are both above 2000 cases-- as is Harrison County-- while DeSoto has exceeded 3000. With more than 1000 but fewer than 2000 cases are these counties: Forrest, Jackson, Jones, Lauderdale, Lee, Neshoba, Washington and the two newest on the list-- Oktibbeha and Lamar. With Sunday's update, the statewide total will crack 60,000.
