The majority of New Orleans has had power restored, FOX 8 Live reports.
On Monday (September 6), Entergy New Orleans said that power has been restored for 70% of its customers eight days after Hurricane Ida knocked out power for over a million people, including all of New Orleans. According to Entergy, more than half of customers in southeast Louisiana who were impacted by Ida have had their power restored, with 457,000 customers out of the peak 902,000 that lost service.
"We have made significant progress in getting the lights back on for our customers in spite of all the challenges we are facing," said John Hawkins, Entergy's vice president of distribution operations. "Our crews are encountering massive damage — particularly in the hardest-hit areas. We have assembled a storm team of nearly 26,000 people who will not stop until the last light is back on. I want to thank our customers for their patience as we work to restore power to our communities."
Entergy New Orleans' mobile customer information center will be at the Treme Rec Center, located at 900 N. Villere, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday (September 7), weather permitting. They will be offering customers estimates for power restoration and disaster resources as well as have cooling and charging stations available.
