Capitol Flags Taken Down, Delivered To State Museum

Three former state flags that flew at the Capitol have a new home at the Museum of Mississippi History. During a ceremony this afternoon, one of the banners containing the Confederate emblem was hoisted on a flagpole one final time and quickly lowered to some applause and a few jeers from the crowd that gathered around the south steps of the Capitol. Then, the flag and two others that flew over the House and Senate chambers were handed over to Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann and House Speaker Philip Gunn and driven in a procession through downtown Jackson before being presented to museum officials. At least one of the flags will become part of a new exhibit at the history museum.
