Morning Update 2-2-17:

With apologies to Punxsutawney Phil, if we could get six more weeks of the winter weather we've had in MS, we'd take it.   January was the third-warmest on record in Vicksburg and Greenwood, the fifth-warmest in Hattiesburg and the sixth-warmest in Jackson where those records have been kept since 1896.

After a brief cool down in MS, warmer weather will return and NWS is continuing to monitor the possibility of some strong (maybe severe) storms next week as another cold front approaches.  If it happens, it should be during the Tuesday time frame.

So far, FEMA says more than 1488 tornado victims in MS have registered for federal disaster assistance.   And already $1.2 million in individual grants have been approved.
