John Horhn has been elected as the new mayor of Jackson, Mississippi, defeating incumbent Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba in the primary runoff. Horhn's victory ends Lumumba's quest for a third term. According to unofficial results, Horhn secured 15,755 votes, while his closest competitor, independent candidate Rodney DePriest, received 6,561 votes. Other candidates included independents Zach Servis, Lillie Stewart-Robinson, and Kim Wade, as well as Republican Kenneth Gee.
In the Jackson City Council races, the Ward 1 seat remains closely contested. Incumbent Ashby Foote currently leads by a narrow margin of 10 votes over independent Grace Greene, with Democrat Jasmine Barnes slightly behind. The final outcome will depend on the counting of affidavit and mail-in ballots.
In Ward 2, Democrat Tina Clay holds a commanding lead over independent Bethany Williams-Sherif, securing her position on the council. Longtime Ward 3 Councilman Kenneth Stokes defeated independent Marques Jackson to continue his service, which began in 1989. Democrat Vernon Hartley retained his Ward 5 seat by defeating independent Ray McCants.
Ward 7 will see a new representative as Democrat Kevin Parkinson won against Republican Taylor Turcotte and independent Ron Aldridge. Parkinson received 1,605 votes, while Aldridge and Turcotte garnered 1,119 and 121 votes, respectively.
