A Maryville police officer was critically injured in a crash with a state trooper while providing security for Vice President JD Vance's motorcade on Friday night (November 14) in Maryville, Tennessee. The officer, identified as Field Training Officer Justin Brown, was riding a motorcycle when he collided with a Tennessee Highway Patrol SUV during the security operation.
The incident occurred around 6:11 p.m. as Vice President Vance arrived at McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base in Alcoa for a fundraising event. Following the crash, local citizens at the scene provided immediate first aid to Officer Brown, a critical factor in saving his life. He was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center by American Medical Response and remains in critical condition after undergoing surgery on Saturday morning.
Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp expressed gratitude for the swift actions of bystanders and the professional care provided by first responders and medical staff. "To those individuals whose quick response saved FTO Brown’s life last night, we could never thank you enough. You are true heroes," Crisp stated.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol's Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the crash. The state trooper involved was also taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment.
